It’s important to use the right tools and integration when managing social media for entertainment brands. Twitter allows you to link your Facebook account (Settings>Account) using your profile or page. I recently linked my Facebook profile account since I tweet more than I Facebook.
Several pro/cons I noticed with this strategy
- Pro: Facebook recently added Twitter integration, any tweet that includes a photo uploaded using Twitter’s photo service, the thumbnail will show on Facebook’s newsfeed.
- Con: You have to use Twitter’s photo service, which is not available on any mobile apps only 3rd party apps such as Twitpic, Lockerz, YFrog are available to upload.
- Con: When tweeting a URL it just shows the t.co link in the post, users have no idea where this link leads to. Normally when you post on Facebook it shows the title, description and thumbnail of a post.
- Con: Twitter slang versus Facebook slang are different. On Twitter we refer to other users with the @ symbol. On Facebook we can tag users by their name which looks clean on a post. Tweets on Facebook just look sloppy and hard to understand for normal Facebook users (that don’t use Twitter).
- Con: Facebook users hardly ever use hashtags or know what #hashtags are used for. I personally think hashtags should be used on all social media platforms to show what the post is related to.
Overall I think tweets look sloppy on Facebook. Maybe in the upcoming years we will see better integration. If Facebook has already added photo integration, I don’t see why they don’t convert URLs into a nicely formatted Facebook post. Facebook should also convert @twitter_usernames into a Facebook tag to the user’s page. Let me know your experience of linking your Twitter and Facebook accounts together in the comments below.
