@SassiBoB anytime. chirp chirp
@SassiBoB So this new weekly rant… Inspired by today’s video, maybe it could be “Sass-loads of SassiBoB” or just “Sass-loads of BoB.” I find that today’s video was very well done, as always. It had math too!
@abqnm hmm….I think SassiLoads is too sexual. I was thinking “BoB is a bitch” but…..idk
@SassiBoB lol Yeah I guess reading it back it looks worse. “BoB is a bitch” is what I first though of and would be great. I just wasn’t sure you wanted to have bitch in the title… BoBB for short or “Nobody’s Safe with SassiBoB” or -with +from (from sounds more sinister). Whatever it is called it will still be amusing as always.

Agreed on the sentiment, but be aware that companies like SimpleMobile also are a new brand of resellers (they resell T-Mobile) that seem to disguise the truth.They use ‘unlimited’ as a marketing term, and most users won’t hit the real limits… and there are indeed real limits. For example, 1gb/mo data is their cap for “unlimited” data and your account will get canceled if you exceed it. You can do a quick search online and find many people upset with them over this.Also, it should be noted, that T-Mobile has contract-less plans for cheaper than their contract-plans, but not online. You have to call. Last year when the Nexus S came out, I bought it outright from BestBuy and got a contract less plan from T-Mobile. It was about 20% cheaper than their contracted plans. Now I’m just waiting for my Galaxy Nexus to arrive from Expansys and I’ll move my SIM over.
@dannydulai that’s SOME companies. I use Simple mobile. You are thinking about Republic wireless or something. They charge $19 a month. To be able to charge so little, they have to deny contracts with power users just to stay afloat.
@SassiBoB Example customer: http://simple-mobile.pissedconsumer.com/simple-mobile-lies-service-not-unlimited-20111115275125.html — there are a few others out there with the same experience. There is no way SimpleMobile could make money if they gave it all away. That data and airtime costs them unit for unit from T-Mobile. They have to stick to the common consumer and hope they wont overuse. Even T-Mobile’s unlimited plans throttle after you hit some limit, but at least they advertise the limits (2gb,5gb,10gb).
All that said, most users would be fine with one of the resellers, and the premise of your video is absolutely true. The fact that T-Mobile sells a plan cheaper if not on contract is proof that when you buy a subsidized phone, you are just taking a loan with an extremely high interest rate. Stupid.
@SassiBoB another example w/ details of the undocumented and low limits at SimpleMobile: http://www.prepaidreviews.com/blog/mvno/simple-mobile-limits-unlimited-data-plan-36148/
@SassiBoB@dannydulai Simple Mobile has a very shady terms and conditions. This is an excerpt of just one paragraph, mainly the one that lets them do whatever they want.
Sections f and g are particularly troubling but f is definitely the bad one. (truncated to just the intro and section for space reasons)
16. Our Rights to Limit or End Service or the Agreement. WE MAY LIMIT, SUSPEND OR TERMINATE YOUR SERVICE OR AGREEMENT WITHOUT NOTICE FOR ANY REASON, INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, if you, any user of your Device, or any user on your account: (f) uses your Service or Device in a manner that is excessive, unusually burdensome, or unprofitable to us
They also get around explaining the data caps by saying that it is unlimited at “UP TO 4G speeds” with a disclaimer footnote: “Device & coverage area dependent. Download speeds may vary.” Now if you get throttled, they just have to say that data speeds are up to 4g and are not guaranteed.
I understand that they have to make money somehow, as they are attempting to do what the big carriers do but for less money and more freedom. There are bound to be some compromises, but the company should be straight forward about it like Republic Wireless is. They actually explain in huge print on the product page that there is a fair usage policy when you are using the cell network.
@SassiBoB@dannydulai Here is the whole paragraph, including section g which basically says they can put you on any plan they want at any time and cut you off or whatever they want to do at any time.
16. Our Rights to Limit or End Service or the Agreement. WE MAY LIMIT, SUSPEND OR TERMINATE YOUR SERVICE OR AGREEMENT WITHOUT NOTICE FOR ANY REASON, INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, if you, any user of your Device, or any user on your account: (a) breaches the Agreement; (b) incurs Charges greater than any credit limitation on your account ; (c) provides inaccurate information ; (d) lives in an area where we don’t provide Service. (e) misuses your Service or Device as described herein; (f) uses your Service or Device in a manner that is excessive, unusually burdensome, or unprofitable to us; or (g) are on a Rate Plan that we determine is no longer available to you. We may impose credit, usage or other limits to your Service, suspend your Service, or block certain types of calls, messages or sessions (such as international, 900 or 976 calls), in our sole discretion and without notice. This paragraph constitutes notice to Puerto Rico customers that your Service may be suspended or cancelled if you engage in any of the foregoing actions in Sections 15 and 16, including but not limited to failing to pay amounts when due, in accordance with the Puerto Rico Suspension Regulation 5940 of March 12, 1999, promulgated by the Telecommunications Board where applicable, or in Simple Mobile’s sole discretion. If your Service or account is suspended or terminated and then reinstated, you may be charged a reactivation fee.
@abqnm@dannydulai I get it, I get it. It may be a little shady, but it’s understandable. If you are downloading 438574389572045 gigs and costing them way too much money, they need to be able to protect themselves from going bankrupt. I agree that they should be a little more open about it, though.
@SassiBoB@abqnm 2gb != 438574389572045 gigs. You can rack up more than 1gb pretty quick if you tether. Anyways, I’ll stop beating this dead horse. I think we all agree that they should be more open. I was almost ready to switch until I looked up what ‘unlimited’ meant. Too bad it was consumers that got bit that informed me, and not their terms.
@SassiBoB Great video, but I want to throw one thing out there. Carriers subsidize the price of the cell phones, and tablets, so when you pay 200 for it, you are actually paying less than what the carrier paid. They do make a killing, but that is capitalism. You can only sell a product for what people are willing to pay, and the majority of Americans seem willing to pay.
@waugj Yes, I know they are selling devices at a loss…but that doesn’t give them a right to do what they are doing. They are taking advantage of how good it looks to basically pay later for your device, holding manufacturers hostage and stealing my information. That’s not okay.
@waugj@SassiBoB _ most americans are willing to pay because there isn’t much else. And yes, they subsidize the phone but when you look at the services like simple mobile you oay less over the course of two years with buying a phone outright then on a contract.
You ARE pissed!!!
@katrixomania You damn right!
@SassiBoB holy **** you can tagg ppl in here
@psycho_maniac_ haha isn’t it awesome!?!
thanks @SassiBoB going to be moving my family to Simple Mobile
@BoB1673 Wow. That’s awesome! Good luck!
Carriers Roofi us with cheaper phones, damn them
Your right SassiBoB I have been bitching about stuff like this forever it seems in forums of course most of mine has been aimed in a different direction but in the end it is the same thing. It really ticks me of that in other civilized areas of the world media services are handled entirely differently. I mean you can get all services (cellular, landline, television, pay per view, internet, fights, pron and on and on) from one provider in Europe for 2/3′s to 1/2 of what we pay in America and have faster service, real unlimited data, 4G and get your snazzy new Samsung GII or whatever and most large cities have Fiber rather than a mix of Coaxial, copper wire, and a little bit of fiber.
Just thought I would let ya know BoB SIMPLE Mobile leases lines/bandwidth from T-Mobile, here is a direct quote!
“I do think Simple Mobile is a pretty great GSM carrier alternative, even if it’s really just using T-Mobile’s network. The prepaid angle is smart, and we like that there’s at least one more option for the GSM customer. It’s an especially appealing option if you’re one of those customers who don’t mind shelling out the big bucks for an unlocked GSM phone. Sure, you pay more up front, but you might end up paying less over time”
@atlmann10 Well of course. These small companies have to use the towers of other big companies.
Definitely a real issue, and Trevor Eckhart’s situation should definitely get some more publicity, we should all get behind him.But aside from publicizing the story, my question, is if there is any other action we can take against these corporate cell phone entities.
I guess, specifically, how can we boycott? who should we boycott? any petitions that should be signed for legislation that needs pushing through? etc.
Another reason i love living in Sweden. I am on a prepaid plan here with unlimited data, cheap calls (Prices are depended on what of the 5 options they have if i want cheap calls or texts), and if i put for 28$ on my account every month they even trow in free data on top of my plan. It is “only” a 8Mbit 3g plan. And they are covering all of Sweden.
I can buy a phone from the carrier that i have chosen if i want and i can even buy one a bit cheaper if i take a prepaid model that will be locked to them. Or i can as i did find the cheapest price on the phone i want and just use it.
Then we can look at the isp’s here also. For 57$ i get a unlimited 100/10 Mbit internet connection here because i live in one of the fiber connected houses.
Ohhh they have just changed it from 28$ to 14$ as the ammount you have to load to get the free data plan on top.
